The Nigerian government issued a batch of 420 Saudi Arabian returnees in February. In the last three months, the Nigerian government has evacuated nearly 2,000 of its citizens with more planned in the coming days.

During the February evacuation, the government, through the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Consular and Legal Services Department, Ambassador Bolaji Akinremi, told reporters that the decision to repatriate Nigerians as part of diplomacy to always bring back nationals in need abroad.

Nigerians seeking greener pastures outside the country can travel legally, according to Akinremi, who said;

“If you have your papers and the country allows you to do it legally, that country has a duty to watch over you, and you have the right to ask questions.”
