Leaders of both blocs, who were major partners in the creation of the APC, had the gentleman’s agreement, according to Akanbi, who served Oyo South Senatorial District between 2015 and 2019.

The pact still exists, as per Akanbi, and members of both blocs are aware of its legitimacy.

The former lawmaker clarified that the rationale behind the agreement was that such rotation, which would allow the Southwest to produce the next President, would keep Nigeria united.
Senator Adesoji Akanbi, Vice Chairman of SWAGA, revealed this in an interview with The Nation in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, yesterday.
The then CPC and ACN had a gentleman’s agreement on rotational presidency, but it wasn’t written down. It was hoped that this would help Nigeria remain one indivisible country.
