  • Generally, are residents of the state for at least one year prior to application

 

  • Will be attending a SUNY or CUNY two- or four-year college in the fall

 

  • Have not previously received a bachelor’s degree

 

  • Meet the income eligibility requirements, which are that they must have a household income no greater than $110,000.

 

 

 

What Is The Application Process of Excelsior Scholarship and Requirements ?

Applying for the Excelsior Scholarship is a simple process. The online applications are compulsory and submit them before the deadline. You can also visit the official website here.

 

The application will ask for basic information about you and your family, as well as your financial situation. And the application is on going for the year 2022.

 

Once you have submitted your application, you will be notified of your award amount and whether or not you have been selected for the scholarship.

 

What Are The Eligibility Excelsior Scholarship Requirements ?

In order to be eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship, you must:

 

1) Firstly, be a resident of New York State for at least one year prior to applying;

 

2) Secondly, be enrolled in an approved program at a participating college;

 

3) Thirdly, meet certain income eligibility requirements.

 

4) Also, not be in default on any student loans or owe a refund on any state or federal grants; and

 

5) Equally, have not previously received a bachelor’s degree.

6) Applicants will also need to file their FAFSA form and complete their application online.

 

How Do I Qualify As An Independent Student?

In order to qualify as an independent student for the Excelsior Scholarship, you must be able to demonstrate financial independence from your parents or guardians.

 

This means that you must be able to show that you are able to support yourself financially. Also, that you are not relying on your parents or guardians for financial support.

 

Years You Have To Live Stay In New York After The Scholarship Program

In order to receive the Excelsior Scholarship, you must agree to live and work in New York State for the length of time. The work time equivalent will equate to the number of years you received the scholarship.

 

For example, if you receive the scholarship for four years of undergraduate study, you must agree to live and work in New York State for four years after you graduate.

 

How Do I Qualify Based on my Institution ?

To qualify for the Excelsior Scholarship, you must attend a SUNY or CUNY two- or four-year college.

 

You also must be a resident of New York State for at least one year prior to the start of the academic term for which you are seeking the Excelsior Scholarship.

 

In addition, you must be enrolled in a program that leads to an undergraduate degree and you must take at least 30 credits per year.

 

How Much Money Can I Receive from The Scholarship per year?

Up to $5,500 per year for tuition at a SUNY or CUNY two- or four-year college.

 

You may also receive up to $200 per year for textbooks. In addition, you can earn an award of up to $6,000 per year through the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).

 

For other postsecondary education options (e.g., private colleges), the Excelsior Scholarship covers up to 70% of tuition and costs but not more than what TAP would cover ($6,000 per year).
