Uber loses Legal battle over driver classification

Uber loses a 5-year-old legal battle over driver classification in the UK Supreme Court.

The United Kingdom’s Supreme Court has given its ruling against Uber. Thereby reaffirmed earlier rulings reiterating that Uber drivers are workers, not independent contractors.

According to reports from Anthony Ha of Tech Crunch; “Drivers are in a position of subordination and dependency in relation to Uber. Such that they have little or no ability to improve their economic position through professional or entrepreneurial skill,” the court said in a statement. “In practice, the only way in which they can increase their earnings is by working longer hours while constantly meeting Uber’s measures of performance.”

TECH CRUNCH

Acknowledging the decision of the Supreme Court, they emphasized it applied to the group of drivers who brought the case. These group of drivers as reported, no longer driving through the app or work for the company.
